Just a few pics today, since this is actually my traditional Insane Thursdays post day. That means I'm concentrating my main efforts on that post today, so if you like your underwear a little "closer to the edge", check for that a little later.

Who has Merlin recs?

I've seen a list from nel_ani (here, allow me) and frogspace (do enjoy).

There must be other Merlin rec lists out there, yes?

Yes, that's right. Underwear. Many people think of them as just another piece of clothing to wear, but many others see them as extremely decorative...depending on who's wearing them of course.  My original intent was to do a mixed post...men and women.  But it took me all night to go through just my men's art files, there were so many fascinating pieces of art that featured men's underwear that I was pretty much overwhelmed.

So I'll have to do women's underwear in a separate post.  Well, if there are as many as there are in the men's art, I'll be doing several posts.  I know I have enough for several more posts for the men.  As a matter of fact, I have enough to make at least one post of just jock straps...that should be interesting...  *g*

So for today, I present all the decorative men in their pretty underwear.  Oh, and there's an NC17 post coming right up, for all those pictures with men who can't seem to stay in their underwear...

Cutest kitty ever.

Exhibit A: I have the mouse on the couch next to me. Kitty has sat down next to me (after frustrated attempts to sit on my and my keyboard). He is now scootching closer and closer to the mouse, soft as a cloud, stifling said mouse usage.

When called on this, "Monte...." he looks up at me with luminous eyes. He reaches with a paw and touches my arm.

Petting must ensue. I don't care if I'm rewarding feline distraction.

(The mouse has been knocked off the mousepad.)

Well, by the time you see this it will be December 2nd, but we're going to pretend for a bit, okay? Because I was so relaxed over the fact that I finished my mini_nanowrimo project, that I didn't even think about the fact that it's now December, and that means it's time for our traditional December celebrations: at least one picture a day (and at least one penis picture a day for the NC17 folks) for the entire month of December.

Knowing me, a few of them (like today's) will be late, but it's the thought that counts, right? So there will be at least two posts dedicated to each day from me for the entire month of December. Some may be short, and some will be filled with pictures, but there will be something for every day of the month.

And since this is the month of Holidays, I thought that Decorations might be a good idea for the theme...

Decorative: attractive - serving merely to look attractive rather than having a functional purpose.

I like that. So that's what we're going to concentrate on this month. The ornamental, the embellishments, the things that look make something look pretty. For that matter, the human body can look pretty without an embellishments at all, but we're going to see if we can manage to decorate it this month. Just for fun. And I'd love it if you joined in, so if you have any decorative pics to share, please feel free to post at any time!

That can mean clothing, leather, ropes, jewelry, ribbons, latex, paint, tattoos, spangles...there are tons of ways to decorate the body, and we're going to celebrate them all. So I brought an assortment of decorative ideas for today's post, just to get us in the mood.

A question came up on my f-list about the end of canon in Stargate Atlantis.

I'm not sure whether the imminent end of the series has any significant effect on readership

In the Harry Potter fandom it certainly didn't. I can't imagine the end of the series would have a significant impact right away. Quite the opposite. There's a spike in interest as people mourn, fret over what's not neatly tied up, are annoyed at the author's/PTB's ships, or just miss it and want more, darn it. In time I think it will taper off as people find other active canons and drift to new fandoms, but no boom is going to be lowered late December, no, not at all.

How active the fandom remains depends on the fandom:

- Do the main archives, challenges, communities, still have people to run them? (Most Important Factor.)
- Is the fandom old enough to have a solid body of work, and fandom tropes, to sustain it?
- Are there lots of Swiss cheese-like holes remaining to play in?
- How dependent on canon is the fandom (are the majority of fics episode tags, or have the fic writers embraced AUs and crossovers)?
- How committed are the fans to keeping their fandom alive? Have fans declared that nothing will stop their ship? Or have they been ho-hum about the end of their series?
- Are there other factors to keep the fandom alive? Spin-offs, movies, conventions.

Run, do not walk, to the Merlin kink meme.

Forget to get me something for my birthday? Feel a need to make the world a better place write more Merlin fic? I know just the thing. Although really, any of these requests would be lovely.

Tuning Up Your Bullshit Detector

There was a meme going around a year ago, having people list things they've learned in life. I couldn't think of anything at the time. But I've learned some things, and one of those is how to spot someone who's lying. The boyfriend and I play a game with 60 Minutes where he asks me, "Okay, is this person lying? How about this one?"

It's not perfect. I can be fooled. But I've put some time into learning how not to. I have caught more than a few liars in the act.

First is to pay attention.

Recognize circumstances when you're likely to be lied to, so you're looking for it. Is someone embarrassed? Backed up against the wall? Are they being forced to make an apology? Do they have something to lose from telling the truth? Something to gain from telling a lie?

Remember that a lie is a sell job. Your belief is the goal. When someone tries to sell me a story, I sharpen up.
